DECEMBER BIRTHSTONE

December birthdays have claim to three gemstones; Zircon, Tanzanite and Turquoise. Each of these gemstones carries a unique blue tone.

Blue zircon was a particular favourite in Victorian times, when fine gems were often featured in English estate jewellery dating from the 1880s.

Tanzanite is relatively new to the coloured stone galaxy.Tiffany & Company recognised its potential as an international seller and made a deal to become its main distributor. Tiffany named the gem after the country it came from, and promoted it with a big publicity campaign in 1968. Almost overnight, tanzanite was popular with leading jewellery designers and other gem professionals, as well as with customers who had an eye for beautiful and unusual gems.

Turquoise is one of the world’s most ancient gems. Archaeological excavations revealed that the rulers of ancient Egypt adorned themselves with turquoise jewellery, and Chinese artisans were carving it more than 3,000 years ago. Turquoise is the national gem of Tibet, and has long been considered a stone that guarantees health, good fortune, and protection from evil.

ORBIT STERLING SILVER RINGS

3 of my orbit stacking rings in sterling silver, one big button, one little button and one set with a turquoise.

Turquoise is an opaque, light to dark blue or blue-green gem with its finest colour being an intense blue. Turquoise may contain narrow veins of other materials either isolated or as a network. They are usually black, brown, or yellowish-brown in colour. Known as the matrix, these veins of colour are
sometimes in the form of an intricate pattern, called a spider web.

ORBIT 9CT YELLOW GOLD RING

This cute little ring is set with a teeny turquoise stone.

With a 1mm shank, these skinny rings are perfect for stacking and combining, particularly with my other orbit rings. I love a mix of faceted and smooth stones.

Turquoise is quite a soft stone in comparison to many gemstones, and can also fade in light over time. Older turquoise is often a softer, greenish colour and can be very lovely although more subtle.

My orbit stacking rings with turquoise are one of my more popular pieces, the teeny pop of blue is really cute and adds a pop of brightness.

Wishing all of you December babes a very Happy BIrthday Xx
